MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
MAY 15, 2000

Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Councilmembers Harrison C. Bristoll, Jr., W. Whaland Clark, Mabel Mumford-Pautz and J. Brian Kirby, Medford Capel, Utilities Manager, W. S. Ingersoll, Town Manager, Joan Merryman, Stenographer, and guests.

Mayor Bailey asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting. Mr. Bristoll moved that the minutes of the meeting of April 17, 2000 be approved as presented, was seconded by Mrs. Mumford-Pautz and carried unanimously.

Mayor Bailey announced that the Utilities Commission has cash on hand in banks of $414,916.60.

Mayor Bailey called on Mr. Capel for his report. Mr. Capel during the hot weather we ran the generator at the water plant a couple of afternoons. He said we have had leaks in service lines and they have been repaired. He said he was going to Greensboro to meet with the Maryland Department of the Environment and Rural Waterworks on updating our CCR report (Consumer Confidence Report) on the water.

Mr. Capel said he wanted to get the reservoir cleaned out this week, which they do once each year. He said he had no further report.

Mr. Clark asked about sewage in Radcliffe Creek. Mr. Capel said they had an outage in the compressors that operate the pumps. He said there was an overflow and they repaired the pumps and they were operating properly. He said there were some fish killed in the pond at Radcliffe pond and he did not know if that was caused by the hot weather or the sewage. He said extremely hot weather like we had causes small ponds to lose oxygen. He said the oxygen at one of the lagoon ponds got down to 1.1 and fish will not survive on anything less than 6 parts per million.

Mayor Bailey asked the Council to review the bills. Mr. Clark moved that the bills be paid as presented, was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.

Mrs. Mumford-Pautz moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:35 p.m., was seconded by Mr. Clark and carried unanimously.
